Michael Rooker on His Character in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY
The Walking Dead co-star Michael Rooker recently gave an interview to Unrendered in which he discussed his character, Yondu, in Guardians of the Galaxy, what fans can expect from the film, and his thoughts on working with director James Gunn again. There's no doubt that Rooker is going to bring awesome badassery to the character he's playing. We've seen a few photos from the set, and he definitely looks great. When asked about the part, he had this to say,
“As you can see from some of the photos out there, I’m not in a loincloth. I don’t have a major, major fin thing that goes down my back. We haven’t visually gone with the way that Yondu was in the comics.”
As for what we can expect to see in the movie, he says,
“Lovely, beautiful colors. What do you expect? It is a superhero movie. And I hope that you see it, and you’re going to be going ‘I’m going to see this again.’ That’s what I hope.”
Rooker goes on to talk about the director, whom he previously worked with on the horror comedy Slither,
“It was a beautiful shoot. James Gunn was an awesome, awesome director to work with again. I’ve worked with him before in the past, and it was great to get to do it again.”
When asked about what attracts him to James Gunn as an artist, he replied,
“It’s what attracts him to me, not what attracts me to him. You’ve got the wrong question there. [Laughing] We get along well. We’ve been good friends since our first film. He allows me to do my thing, and he has great comments. Very good director…when you’re lost in the woods, he can direct you.”
I think this movie was perfectly cast, and not only is it going to be fun seeing Rooker in his role, but it's also going to be amazing seeing the rest of the cast, which includes Chris Pratt as Peter Quill / Star-Lord, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon, Vin Diesel as Groot, John C. Reilly as Rhomann Dey, Benicio del Toro as The Collector, Lee Pace as Ronan the Accuser, Djimon Hounsou as Korath, and Karen Gillan as Nebula. The movie comes out on August 1st, 2015!
