Michael Rooker’s Secret Role in SUPERMAN Has Been Revealed

If you’ve been wondering where Michael Rooker would pop up in James Gunn’s Superman, we’ve learned that the fan-favorite actor, best known for his blue-skinned turn as Yondu in Guardians of the Galaxy, is officially voicing one of the Kryptonian robots in Gunn’s upcoming DC reboot.

The reveal came courtesy of the newly released sneak peek of Superman. In the footage, a wounded Superman is dragged by his loyal dog Krypto to the Fortress of Solitude.

There, he’s met by a team of Kryptonian caretaker bots. Robot 4, voiced by Alan Tudyk, is the first to speak. But at the 3:09 mark, another robotic voice chimes in: “Fourteen fractured bones.” That’s Michael Rooker as Robot 5.

Rooker and Gunn have worked together on multiple projects, including Slither, Super, The Suicide Squad, and of course, the Guardians trilogy. This is Rooker’s second time entering the DC sandbox under Gunn’s direction, following his role as Savant in 2021’s The Suicide Squad.

While fans speculated last year that Rooker might be playing General Sam Lane, those rumors were squashed when Gunn debunked that rumor.

Back in 2022, Rooker spoke about working in both the Marvel and DC universes during an interview with the Geek House Show. When asked if the filmmaking process differed between the two studios, he shrugged it off, saying:

“Oh, from my point of view, it’s the same process. It doesn’t really matter which studio you’re working for, they’re the same.”

He added that he had to wear “Heavier makeup” for Yondu in GOTG than for Savant in The Suicide Squad.

So while Rooker won’t be tossing around Kryptonite or flying military choppers as Lois Lane’s dad, his gravelly tone still finds its way into Gunn’s Superman.
