Michael Rosenbaum Explains Why He Will Not Play Lex Luthor in "Crisis On Infinite Earths"

After it was announced that Tom Welling and Erica Durance would reprise their Smallville roles of Clark Kent and Lois Lane in The CW’s "Crisis On Infinite Earths" crossover event series, a lot of fans have been waiting to see Michael Rosenbaum come back to play Lex Luthor.

Well, unfortunately, that’s not going to happen. While the actor was asked to reprise the role, he ended up passing on the opportunity. In case you’re wondering why, he explained in a tweet that read:

"Friends, many of you have tweeted and asked me about joining the Infinite Crossover. I can't tell you how much this means to me. I'll just be straight up about this. WB called my agents Friday afternoon when I was in Florida visiting my grandfather in a nursing home. Their offer: No Script. No idea what I'm doing. No idea when I'm shooting. Basically no money. And the real kick in the ass ‘We have to know now.’ My simple answer was ‘Pass’. I think you can understand why. I hope this answers all of your questions. Lovingly Rosenbaum."

Yeah, they really didn’t give him much to go on! It would have been hard to say yes with so little information. In the end, you’ve gotta blame the producers for not being more prepared when approaching Rosenbaum. It would have been awesome to see him back as Lex, but I guess it just wasn’t meant to be, which is a shame. But, I can understand why he passed.
