Michael Shannon, Emilia Clarke, and Dane DeHaan Will Star in Joe McCarthy Biopic

Michael Shannon is set to star in a biopic film about U.S. Senator Joseph McCarthy. He will play McCarthy in the movie and he will be joined by Emilia Clarke, Dane DeHaan, and Scoot McNairy.

The film is titled McCarthy and it will chart "the rise and fall of the notorious and powerful senator and his enablers, a group that includes his politically ambitious wife Jean Kerr (Clarke), his ruthless young lawyer Roy Cohn (DeHaan) and his trusted friend and colleague Ray Kiermas (McNairy).”

For those of you who need a refresher, McCarthy is known for alleging that numerous communists and Soviet spies and sympathizers had infiltrated the United States federal government, universities, film industry, and more. His rise to power was built on a wave of anti-communist hysteria.

Shannon is going to be perfect in this role and he will be directed by Václav Marhoul (The Painted Bird).
