Michael Shannon, Kiersey Clemons and More to Star in Drag Dramedy THE YOUNG KING
Actors Michael Shannon (Knives Out, Nine Perfect Strangers), Kiersey Clemons (Dope, Lady and the Tramp), and Barbie Ferreira (Euphoria, Nope) have joined the cast of the drag dramedy The Young King. The feature from Mister Smith Entertainment is the directorial debut of Larin Sullivan (Anatomy: Soul), who wrote the script as well.
Set in the drag king scene of 1990s Las Vegas, the story follows Jules (Clemons), “an aspiring drag king who comes to Las Vegas to reconnect with her estranged dad Mick (Michael Shannon), a legendary gambler and part-time children’s party clown, and to make her debut performance in the U.S.’s biggest drag king revue. Mick is less than excited to see his daughter ‘Julia’ presenting as masculine, wearing suits and chasing after Ronnie (Barbie Ferreira), a no-nonsense dancer.”
Songwriter Justin Tranter, who has worked with Britney Spears, Lady Gaga and others, serves as Executive Music Producer and is creating original music for the film.
This is a solid cast and story, and I look forward to seeing how it turns out. Production begins in Las Vegas in the first quarter of 2023.
