Michelle Rodriguez Confirms FAST AND FURIOUS 9 is Going To Space
We all knew that one day the Fast and Furious franchise would lead to Vin Diesel’s Dominic Toretto launching into outer space. Franchise actor Ludacris started some rumors a few months ago that this might be happening in F9 and now Michelle Rodriguez has confirmed it.
During a recent interview with SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show, Rodriguez was asked about the rumors, and this was her response:
“Oh, no way. How did you guys find that out? See what happens? People start talking behind the scenes, man. When a movie doesn’t come out and forget about it, things get out. Nobody was supposed to know that…Oh, well, no, I’m not, I’m not, I’m not lucky enough to hit space, but we did get a female writer and showed a lot of love, I think, on this one. Thanks to…Justin Lin. We were able to, to find a little bit more attention and love for the girls in the movie. And so I’m really hopeful that that, that shows through in the final product.
So, the cat’s out of the bag! I’m curious to see how they end up working space travel into the story. But, we’ll have to wait a while. F9 was originally supposed to open in theaters on May 22nd, 2020 but the release was pushed back a full year and is now being released on April 2nd, 2021.
Here’s the synopsis for the film:
Vin Diesel’s Dom Toretto is leading a quiet life off the grid with Letty and his son, little Brian, but they know that danger always lurks just over their peaceful horizon. This time, that threat will force Dom to confront the sins of his past if he’s going to save those he loves most. His crew joins together to stop a world-shattering plot led by the most skilled assassin and high-performance driver they’ve ever encountered: a man who also happens to be Dom’s forsaken brother, Jakob (John Cena, next year’s The Suicide Squad).
F9 sees the return of Justin Lin as director, who helmed the third, fourth, fifth and sixth chapters of the series when it transformed into a global blockbuster. The action hurtles around the globe—from London to Tokyo, from Central America to Edinburgh, and from a secret bunker in Azerbaijan to the teeming streets of Tblisi. Along the way, old friends will be resurrected, old foes will return, history will be rewritten, and the true meaning of family will be tested like never before.
The movie also stars John Cena as Dom’s brother Jakob, along with Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Nathalie Emmanuel, and Anna Sawai are all set to return to the franchise along with Charlize Theron as the villainous Cipher, and Helen Mirren will once again play Magdalene Shaw. Michael Rooker portrays a newcomer named Buddy, and Finn Cole, Sam Lerner, and Anna Sawai have been cast in unknown roles.
Here’s a trailer for the film that was released before it was pushed back! It’ll looks ridiculously fun!
