Mickey Rourke Clearly Isn't a Fan of Tom Cruise and Slams Him as Being "Irrelevant"

Tom Cruise is at the top of his game with Top Gun: Maverick grossing over $1 billion at the box office this year. It seems like almost everyone that has seen the Top Gun sequel, has loved it! But, Mickey Rourke isn’t impressed and he’s clearly not a fan of Cruise.

He recently appeared on Piers Morgan Uncensored where he slammed Cruise as “irrelevant.” When asked about the success of Top Gun: Maverick, Rourke responded:

“That doesn’t mean shit to me. [Tom Cruise has] been doing the same part for 35 effing years. I got no respect for that. I don’t care about money or power. I care about…when I when I watch Al Pacino or Christopher Walken working, or De Niro’s early work and Richard Harris and Ray Winstone, that’s the kind of actor I want to be like. A lot of guys that tried to stretch as actors.”

When asked if Cruise is a good actor, Rourke said, “I think he’s irrelevant in my world.” To each their own! I’ve been a fan of Cruise for a long time. Yeah, I know he’s got a crazy streak in him, but I don’t care. I enjoy his films and he just loves making movies and entertaining audiences.

I worked at Paramount Pictures in the mail room while Cruise was shooting Mission: Impossible III and he was always just such a super nice guy.

I guess we’ll never see Rourke in a Tom Cruise movie! Instead, he’ll work with a guy like director Roman Polanski. He stars in his next film, The Palace.
