Mike Flanagan Says Shudder's Horror Film ODDITY Is a "Masterclass in Dread, Atmosphere, and Tension"
Mike Flanagan, the director of Doctor Sleep, The Haunting at Hill House, and Midnight Mass, has recommended a new horror film that is currently streaming on Shudder.
The movie is titled Oddity, and it’s a supernatural thriller that was directed by Damian McCarthy (Caveat). It currently has a 95% critical rating on Rotten Tomatoes. This is a movie I’ll definitely be watching soon!
This is being hailed as one of the scariest of the year, and Flanagan shared his praise from the film on Letteredbox saying:
“Absolutely excellent. Damian Mc Carthy’s engrossing, terrifying follow-up to his atmospheric and chilling CAVEAT is a masterclass in dread, atmosphere, and tension.
“An arresting opening sequence involving a woman answering the door to an unsettling stranger blossoms into a tale of supernatural revenge, mournful spirits, and buried secrets.”
The story follows a character named Dani, who is murdered, and her blind occultist twin sister Darcy goes after those responsible using inherited haunted items as her tools of revenge.
The synopsis reads: “When Dani is brutally murdered at the remote country house that she & her husband Ted are renovating, everyone suspects a patient from the local mental health institution, where Ted is a doctor.
“However, soon after the suspect is found dead. A year later, Dani's blind twin sister Darcy, a self-proclaimed psychic and collector of cursed items, pays an unexpected visit to Ted and his new girlfriend, Yana.
“Convinced that there was more to her sister's murder than people know, Darcy has brought with her the most dangerous items from her cursed collection to help her exact revenge.
Oddity stars Gwilym Lee, Carolyn Bracken as both Dani and Darcy, Tadhg Murphy, Caroline Menton, Jonathan French, and Steve Wall.
