Miles Teller Officially Cast as Goose's Son in TOP GUN: MAVERICK
Director Joseph Kosinski has gone ahead and cast Miles Teller (Fantastic Four, Only the Brave) in the role of Goose's son Wrigley in Top Gun: Maverick. He was one of three actors up for the role last week. The other two included Nicholas Hoult (X-Men), and Glen Powell (Everybody Wants Some), both of which I think would have been a better choice for the role. I was hoping that Powell would take it, but Teller is their guy.
The report from Variety says that the Top Gun sequel will "be set in a world of drone technology and fifth generation fighters along with exploring the end of the era of dogfighting."
Teller is a talented actor, I just didn't see him fitting the role. For some additional information on the character, and how he will fit into the story, this is some previously leaked info:
From what we know, Goose’s son, Wrigley, and Maverick will NOT be having a mentor/mentee or father/son dynamic in the film; in fact, it appears they’ll have more of antagonistic relationship when the film begins, which could play off of a “you killed my dad” scenario.
The relationship between Wrigley and Maverick will be an interesting relationship dynamic to explore. Here is the description of the character:
All-American good looks. Rode a football scholarship to an Ivy League degree. He is in love with Sugar. He distrusts Maverick and dislikes what he stands for, although they have a lot of similarities. Eventually, comes to respect Maverick and uses his techniques. He is forced to eject in enemy territory and Maverick comes to save him.
What do you think about Miles Teller taking on the role of Goose's son in Top Gun: Maverick?
The movie is set to be released on July 12, 2019.
