Miley Cyrus Wanted To Turn Nicolas Cage's MANDY Into a Musical and Star in It

Miley Cyrus was such a big fan of director Panos Cosmatos’ insane horror thriller, Mandy, that she wanted to adapt it into a musical and play Nicolas Cage’s character in it.

During an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, she said: “I wanted to play Nicolas Cage. I love that it’s a romance revenge story. Romance and revenge—those are some of the greatest tragedies. I forever and always will be interested in those.”

Cyrus said that she actually reached out to Cosmatos to adapt the film into a musical, but things never panned out. Regardless, Cosmatos is now involved with her upcoming album, Something Beautiful.

She describes her new album as highly visual and said it was inspired by Pink Floyd’s The Wall. She said: “It was inspired by Pink Floyd’s The Wall. We really leaned in. And so I have this heart-first attachment to it.

“My idea was making The Wall, but with a better wardrobe and more glamorous and filled with pop culture.” Cosmatos added, “[The album is] more experimental than anything she’s ever done, but in a pop way that I love.”

Cage played Red Miller in Mandy. In the film, “Pacific Northwest. 1983 AD. Outsiders Red Miller and Mandy Bloom lead a loving and peaceful existence. When their pine-scented haven is savagely destroyed by a cult led by the sadistic Jeremiah Sand, Red is catapulted into a phantasmagoric journey filled with bloody vengeance and laced with fire.”

While a Mandy musical isn’t in the cards right now, the whole thing led to a creative partnership between Cyrus and Cosmatos.
