We’ve got a new photo to share with you from director Paul WS Anderson’s film adaptation of Monster Hunter. It shows off Milla Jovovich as Artemis ready for battle as she wields her flaming hot double swords. I guess to hunt monsters, you’ve got to pack some heavy weaponry!

The image comes from Empire, and while talking to them Anderson explained, “I wrote the role of Artemis for Milla as the avatar for the player, so she could be a grounded, relatable real-world character who is fresh to the world of Monster Hunter.” Jovovich added, “Yeah, she’s not based on a character from the game. Paul wrote her as the captain of a team of Army Rangers that go in to rescue their colleagues.”

Jovovich went on to reveal why she ended up choosing to use these dual blades in the film saying, “I experimented with different weapons during the game and was able to kill more monsters with those blades. I thought they’d look really beautiful in an action sequence.”

Well, they certainly do look cool in this image! In the story, Artemis is transported to another realm populated by monsters. She meets Hunter in this world, and he is played by Tony Jaa. The two end up teaming up to fight to close a portal to prevent monsters from invading earth.

I’m not really a fan of Anderson’s film work, but I like what I’ve seen from this so far and I hope it turns out to be a fun flick! Here’s the synopsis:

Behind our world, there is another: a world of dangerous and powerful monsters that rule their domain with deadly ferocity. When Lt. Artemis (Milla Jovovich) and her loyal soldiers are transported from our world to the new world, the unflappable lieutenant receives the shock of her life. In her desperate battle for survival against enormous enemies with incredible powers and unstoppable, revolting attacks, Artemis will team up with a mysterious man who has found a way to fight back.

The movie also stars Ron Perlman (Hellboy, Drive), T.I. Harris (Ant-Man and The Wasp), Diego Boneta (Luis Miguel, Rock of Ages), Meagan Good (Code Black), and Josh Helman (X-Men: Days of Future Past).

Monster Hunter will be released on September 4, 2020.
