Millie Bobby Brown to Adapt Her Novel NINETEEN STEPS Into Netflix Film

Last year, we announced that actress Millie Bobby Brown had just released her book, ghostwritten by author Kathleen McGurl, titled Nineteen Steps.

The novel is a historical fiction based on a real-life wartime mystery inspired by Brown's grandmother, Ruth, who passed away in 2020. Brown said at the time that she had plans to make the story into a movie, but nothing was set in stone at the time.

Now, Netflix has signed on to adapt the film with Brown, which is a natural fit considering the actress has worked with Netflix on her hit series Stranger Things, which launched her career, as well as the Sherlock Holmes spinoff Enola Holmes films, and the fantasy adventure Damsel. Brown will produce Nineteen Things through her company PCMA Productions and is in talks to star in the movie adaptation.

The story of Nineteen Steps “follows 18-year-old Nellie Morris, who is living in the east London neighborhood of Bethnal Green and falling for an American airman named Ray. But her world is turned upside down after surviving the Bethnal Green Tube disaster, which killed 173 civilians who were seeking shelter during an air raid.”

Bohemian Rhapsody and Darkest Hour screenwriter Anthony McCarten is adapting the script for the screen.

Stay tuned for more news on the projects as it moves into production.
