MINECRAFT EARTH Wants AR Games to Be More Immersive and a Multiplayer Experience

Microsoft has unveiled Minecraft Earth which is like the other AR games out there such as Pokemon Go, on steroids. I’ll let Alex Kipman from Microsoft explain:

Minecraft Earth proposes to completely break the dogma that has lived with us in computing since the beginning: this idea of a single person that holds a single device to create a single experience. With Minecraft Earth, that’s no longer the case. The content is in the real world.

Minecraft Earth’s goal is to take AR to the next level and allow people to experience the same thing simultaneously. It sounds like they want the idea of Gym Battles and Raids in Pokemon Go to simply be the default concept of players constantly interacting each other. Also, those modes in Pokemon Go are very limited in how players interact with each other. It’s usually still a single-player experience, simply with other people standing by you.

There’s no release date yet for Minecraft Earth, but you can sign up for the beta that is scheduled for this summer over on the Minecraft site.
