MINECRAFT The Movie Will be Directed by Shawn Levy

Earlier this year it was reported that Warner Bros. would be developing a big screen adaptation of the addictive video game Minecraft. Deadline now reports that the studio has hired Night at the Museum franchise director Shawn Levy to direct the feature.

In the game, players create their own avatar and are dropped into a blank world filled with nocturnal monsters. Players then use cubes to create, build, and destroy structures and other forms across multiple game modes and various players.

The movie will be a live-action adaptation, which seems weird because it would fit a lot better in a CG animated universe. Creating it in live-action would take away the the look of the brand, which the players have become accustomed to. Who knows though, maybe Levy has a way to make it all work.

This seems like a movie that Levy would want to be a part of. It seems like it would compliment his style of storytelling. My favorite movie that he's done so far is Real Steel with Hugh Jackman. He's also given us Big Fat Liar, The Pink Panther, and Alexander And The Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. This next film of his to be released is Night At The Museum: Secret Of The Tomb

Do you think Levy will be able to come up with a unique way to tell this story on film?
