MISS PIGGY is Getting Her Own Movie with Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone Producing, Cole Escola Writing
After more than five decades of stealing scenes and stealing hearts, Miss Piggy is finally getting the solo spotlight she’s always demanded.
Jennifer Lawrence recently revealed that she and Emma Stone are producing a new movie centered on the glamorous Muppet icon, with Oh, Mary! creator Cole Escola set to write the script. This will mark Piggy’s first true solo adventure since her debut on The Muppet Show in 1976.
Lawrence dropped the surprise news during an appearance on Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers’ Las Culturistas podcast, saying, “I don’t know if I can announce this, but I’m just going to. Emma Stone and I are producing a Miss Piggy movie and Cole is writing it.”
When asked whether she and Stone might appear in the film, Lawrence didn’t hesitate: “I think so, we have to.”
No story details have been revealed yet, and Disney or The Jim Henson Company haven’t commented, but Muppet fans are sure to be thrilled to see Piggy finally take center stage where she belongs.
Miss Piggy started out as a background character on The Muppet Show before becoming a global icon in the late ’70s and early ’80s. Known for her dramatic flair, diva energy, and unwavering confidence, she’s often managed to outshine Kermit the Frog himself.
The project also comes at a big moment for The Muppets. The franchise recently celebrated its 70th anniversary, and Disney+ has been developing new projects to keep the beloved characters in the spotlight.
Just last month, news broke that The Muppet Show will be getting a refresh from Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s Point Grey Pictures. The upcoming TV event is set to feature Sabrina Carpenter as a special guest star and will premiere in 2026 to celebrate the original show’s 50th anniversary.
A Miss Piggy movie will be a fitting tribute to one of pop culture’s most enduring icons. She’s always been larger than life, and now she’s finally getting the kind of Hollywood treatment only a true star deserves.
If anyone was born to headline her own movie, it’s Miss Piggy. Or as she’d say herself: “Moi was destined for this.”
