MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 5 Doesn't Have an Ending, So Production Has Been Stopped
Will Hollywood never learn? One of the very first things that I learned in my college screenwriting class was KNOW YOUR ENDING! Well, the production of Mission: Impossible 5 has halted production because the movie doesn't have an ending.
You'd think you would want to have a solid, ironclad script before you start on a big budget production like Mission: Impossible 5. The shooting process would run a hell of a lot more smoothly, and it would guarantee that the studio would save money.
According to THR, a source claims that the director, Christopher McQuarrie, was "scrambling" to come up with an ending that would work. But a Paramount representative had this to say:
"Chris, Tom [Cruise] and a third person wanted to take a minute to get from what they thought was a good place to a more perfect place."
Of course that's what a studio rep would say. I'm sure there's a lot more drama going on behind the scenes than we actually know. The studio obviously has confidence in the film, though, since they recently moved the release date up from Christmas of this year to July 31st.
If you remember, Paramount Pictures had a similar issue with their zombie epic World War Z. They managed to figure it all out, though, and it became a big hit. I know that Mission: Impossible 5 will turn out fine, and they'll figure something out, but the fact that they didn't have a solid ending before they started shooting is crazy. That's Hollywood for you!
