MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - FALLOUT Director Christopher McQuarrie Wants To Direct a STAR TREK Film

Director Christopher McQuarrie has done some great things with the Mission: Impossible franchise. I’ve enjoyed the stories and elements that he’s brought to that franchise and it would be interesting to bring his filmmaking style to another franchise like Star Trek.

During a recent Q&A session with fans after a screening of Mission: Impossible - Fallout that was hosted by Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld, McQuarrie was asked by a fan about directing a Star Trek film and he was very much into the idea! Liefeld tweeted out McQuarrie’s response saying:

McQuarrie is obviously a big fan of the series and wouldn’t mind Paramount Pictures giving him a call, so they should eventually do that! The director is in high demand right now and is probably lining up the projects, but there are two Star Trek movies already in the pipeline that have directors with S.J. Clarkson set to direct Star Trek 4 and Quentin Tarantino set to helm Star Trek 5. So, McQuarrie could take on the next film if they wanted him to. Paramount probably isn’t even thinking that far ahead. Hell, they’re still trying to figure out what to do with Star Trek 4 with Chris Pine and Chris Hemsworth dropping out of negotiations with them.

Regardless, McQuarrie is a great director and it’d be awesome to see him take on a Star Trek film. I’d love to see what he would do with the franchise if given the chance. The question is, would he cast Tom Cruise in it to play a lead guest character? Maybe the villain?

Below you’ll find as photo that Liefeld hared a photo of himself with McQuarrie and in it he praises the director.
