MODERN FAMILY's Ed O'Neill and Co-Creator Christopher Lloyd Have Created THE UNDERCOVERS a Spy Podcast Series
While watching Modern Family over the past ten years, have you ever looked at the opening credits and thought it was so cool that Christopher Lloyd was the executive producer, thinking all the while that it was the lovable Christopher Lloyd from the show Taxi, and the Back to the Future movies? Yeah, me neither. I definitely didn’t just figure out that the producer of Modern Family was a totally different guy. But this Lloyd is no schlub. He has worked on the hit series Modern Family, as well as Frasier, which are two of my favorite shows. And now he and star and patriarch of Modern Family Ed O’Neill are creating a new spy podcast called The Undercovers.
Deadline describes the podcast by saying, “The Undercovers combines the truth about what it’s like to be an undercover agent with the drama of being a covert operative.” They also provide the following full synopsis:
Season one, which is narrated by O’Neill, tells the real-life story of Agent Follis, a former USMC investigator and DEA Special Agent who was undercover for more than 27 years. He is credited with bringing to justice scores of high-value domestic and international drug traffickers and narco-terrorists. He traveled throughout Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Myanmar, Jakarta, China, Mexico, Afghanistan, Egypt, Lebanon, Israel, France, and Pakistan, consistently receiving awards and distinctions, including the Attorney General’s Award for Valor, a U.S. Congressional Proclamation of Bravery and Distinction, and appointment to the Department of Justice Senior Executive Service (SES).
The season tells the tale of Follis in the Golden Triangle as he infiltrates the world’s biggest opium and heroin trafficking enterprise, gaining the trust of its leader and then taking him down, while nearly losing his life. It also includes grisly murders, betrayals, kidnapping, assassinations, lies, and the treachery of double-agents at the highest levels of government. It tells the true stories, told by the agent who was there in the field, for months, facing the targets of his work every single day.
Lloyd will produce the six-part series with Jeff Schmidt, sound designer of the hit podcasts Dirty John and Dr. Death. This sounds like a fascinating podcast. I will definitely be checking it out. I just hope it doesn’t feel like Al Bundy is reading me a story, because that would be weird. Are you interested?
