Modiphius Officially Launches 2D20 World Builders Community Content Program Letting TTRPG Creators Create Content using 2D20
Dungeons & Dragons has gone and messed up. In case you missed it, last week there was information leaked regarding changes to the Open Gaming License. These changes suck and have rightfully pissed off many tabletop RPG fans. This has proven to be a bit of a PR nightmare for D&D, but a great moment for other companies. One such company is Modphius that has officially launched the 2d20 World Builders Community Content Program through DriveThru RPG. Now, this program was revealed last year, but now it’s officially open and content creators are open to create their own content for the 2d20 system. You just need to use the 2d20 System Reference Document (affiliate link).
You’ll definitely want to read through all of the guidelines, but I’ll try to break some of the big aspects down for you. First, you must sell whatever you create through this program through DriveThru RPG. If you want to sell it on Kickstarter or your local game store or somewhere else, you have to get a commercial license from Modiphius. Second, you get 50% of all sales. If you list an item for $5, you get $2.50. Third, you cannot make content for licensed products like Star Trek Adventures or Fallout, but you can use a lot of the rules. Fourth, You own any IP you create, but Modiphius owns the products you make. If you create a brand new fantasy world and launch it in a book called Fantasy Card RPG Rulebook, you own the world and characters and can use them in other projects like a comic or YouTube series, but Modiphius owns Fantasy Card RPG Rulebook. Fifth, no AI art is allowed!
One important thing to note is that you can make content for Modiphius’ Achtung! Cthulhu IP, just be sure to follow those specific guidelines. Modiphius has also released a free Art Pack (affiliate link) for Achtung! Cthulhu projects. You can also grab official logos and templates (affiliate link) for your projects for free as well from Modiphius. The templates are for Word and InDesign.
