Molly Ringwald Joins YELLOWJACKETS For its Fourth and Final Season
There’s a new addition coming to the final chapter of Yellowjackets, and it’s a casting choice that feels perfectly in tune with the show’s DNA. Molly Ringwald has officially signed on for a recurring role in the fourth and final season of Yellowjackets, adding another iconic name to the series’ already killer lineup.
Ringwald, known for The Breakfast Club and Sixteen Candles, will play Vicky, the mother of Van. Vicky is described as a recently recovered alcoholic trying her best to course correct her past. That opens up a ton of emotional possibilities, especially considering where we last left Van’s story.
As fans painfully remember, the adult version of Van, played by Lauren Ambrose, was tragically killed last season. So what does that mean for Vicky?
Is she digging for answers about her daughter’s death in the present-day timeline? Or could we be heading back to the ’90s, where teen Van, played by Liv Hewson, returns home to New Jersey after the rescue and has to face the fallout with her mother?
Either direction fits the show’s signature time-hopping structure, and honestly, both sound like they could get messy in all the right ways.
Ringwald’s casting also continues Yellowjackets’ tradition of bringing in beloved teen stars from the ’80s and ’90s to round out its adult ensemble. Over the first three seasons, we’ve seen powerhouse performances from Melanie Lynskey, Christina Ricci, Juliette Lewis, Ambrose, and Hilary Swank.
Created and executive produced by Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson, Yellowjackets follows a high school girls soccer team whose plane crashes deep in the remote northern wilderness. The surviving players are forced to endure the unimaginable as they splinter from a competitive but tight-knit team into fractured, savage factions.
At the same time, the series tracks their adult lives nearly 25 years later, revealing how the trauma never really left them. The past doesn’t stay buried for long in this story, and whatever happened out there in the woods continues to ripple through their present in brutal, unexpected ways.
The ensemble cast also includes Sophie Nélisse, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Samantha Hanratty, Sophie Thatcher, and Courtney Eaton, who bring the younger versions of these characters to life with raw intensity.
With Season 4 set to bring the story to a close, adding Molly Ringwald into the emotional fallout surrounding Van feels like a smart and potentially heartbreaking move.
Its eems like the final season is going to dig deep into unresolved wounds, and Vicky might be stepping right into the middle of them.
