MONSTER HUNTER Director Paul W.S. Anderson Is Already Writing a Sequel
I’m not really the biggest fan of director Paul W.S. Anderson. While he has made some cool films like Mortal Kombat and the first Resident Evil movie, most of his films are pretty mediocre. Regardless of that, I am looking forward to seeing his upcoming adaptation of the hit video game Monster Hunter. That movie looks like it’s going to provide some fun and exciting entertainment.
During a recent interview with Total Film, Anderson says that he’s “been working on Monster Hunter for 11 years.” When talking about the film, Anderson seems confident that audiences are going to like what it has to offer.
He claims the creatures are “built to a greater level of detail than anything in Jurassic World. There’s hundreds of monsters [in the game]. I can only use five or six of them in the movie. So it’s a big, fun world that I think we’ve only just started to scratch the surface of."
Milla Jovovich, who stars in the film goes on to add that Anderson is "already writing" a sequel that is based in the film’s universe. When asked about a sequel, she said:
"Definitely, we would love to make another one. Hopefully people are going to love it because I know Paul would love to make a sequel. I mean, he’s already writing something..."
Well, let’s see how this first movie turns out. I hope it’s good! It seems like a fun world for a filmmaker to play in.
The film’s story follows Jovovich as Artemis and a small squad of soldiers who find themselves being transported to another realm that is inhabited by giant creatures and they’ve got to fight them! They team up with a warrior in this realm named Hunter, who is played by Tony Jaa. Together they engage in battle against the monsters to close a portal to prevent the monsters from going through and invading earth.
Here’s the synopsis:
Behind our world, there is another: a world of dangerous and powerful monsters that rule their domain with deadly ferocity. When an unexpected sandstorm transports Captain Artemis (Milla Jovovich) and her unit (TI Harris, Meagan Good, Diego Boneta) to a new world, the soldiers are shocked to discover that this hostile and unknown environment is home to enormous and terrifying monsters immune to their firepower. In their desperate battle for survival, the unit encounters the mysterious Hunter (Tony Jaa), whose unique skills allow him to stay one step ahead of the powerful creatures. As Artemis and Hunter slowly build trust, she discovers that he is part of a team led by the Admiral (Ron Perlman). Facing a danger so great it could threaten to destroy their world, the brave warriors combine their unique abilities to band together for the ultimate showdown.
The movie also stars Ron Perlman (Hellboy, Drive), T.I. Harris (Ant-Man and The Wasp), Diego Boneta (Luis Miguel, Rock of Ages), Meagan Good (Code Black), and Josh Helman (X-Men: Days of Future Past).
Monster Hunter is set to be released in theaters in December 2020.
