MOONLIGHT Star in Talks to Join Denzel Washington in Dan Gilroy's INNER CITY

If you haven't seen Barry Jenkins' Best Picture-winning film Moonlight, you should absolutely check it out — not only because it's a gorgeous movie that advocates empathy in a time during which we must be empathetic as a society, but because it's already proving to be a launchpad for young talent. The Tracking Board reports that Ashton Sanders, who plays the teenaged version of Moonlight's lead character Chiron, is now in early talks to join Denzel Washington in a new movie called Inner City.

Inner City is the brainchild of Dan Gilroy, the guy who brought us the wonderful, underseen 2014 movie Nightcrawler (another film you should absolutely seek out if you haven't yet). This one is a legal thriller that centers around Washington's character, "a lawyer who discovers that his firm hasn’t always acted in accordance with his personal values, leading to an existential crisis that forces him to take extreme action." If Sanders' deal goes through, he'll play "an impressionable recent law school graduate who helps Washington with pro bono cases." Colin Farrell is already on board as well, so this is shaping up to have an excellent cast.

Nightcrawler was Gilroy's directorial debut, and he's writing and directing Inner City as well. He definitely hasn't steered me wrong yet, so I'm very excited about the potential of this movie and look forward to seeing it as soon as humanly possible.
