More Details on The HARLEY QUINN Animated Series Including the One Word They Will Censor

During the Television Critics Association press tour, the executive producers and cast of DC Universe’s upcoming Harley Quinn talked a bit about the series. We learned that the show isn’t just about Harley Quinn, but it’s from her perspective. This means that the characters will be different from what we’re used to such as Superman being “a guy who tells dad jokes.” In addition, Poison Ivy is seen as the voice of reason in this world as well as being Harley’s best friend.

It was also revealed that we’ll see a lot of character growth from Harley even though she’s still killing people. As Harley’s voice actor, Kaley Cuoco said:

“It’s almost like a few steps forward and 25 steps back. She falls back in her old ways and [c]an’t help it. Building her crew, she learns what real friendships are. She actually loves these people, but she falls into her old ways. That’s Harley Quinn.

Patrick Schumaker also revealed that Harley will be bad, but there will be worse villains in the show. So, while Harley will kill people, some people like Damian Wayne as Robin, are off limits. Also, the show as a whole, while being TV-MA and having a lot of freedom with what language can be used, will not use the C word. As Schumaker explains:

In a show that’s packed to the gils with foul language, that episode involves a certain villain voiced by Tony Hale who is ousted from the Legion of Doom because using the C word is not their brand of evil. So I wanted to make sure everyone was aware that was the one word. That’s the line.

Based on everything we’re hearing, it appears that no DC character will be safe from getting a weird version of themselves implanted in the animated series. Who would you like to see?

Harley Quinn will launch on DC Universe this Fall.
