More New Photos From Denis Villeneuve’s DUNE Offer a First Look at the Ensemble Cast

We’ve got a collection of new photos to share with you today from director Denis Villeneuve’s highly-anticipated adaptation of Frank Herbert’s classic sci-fi novel Dune.

The photos include a new look at Timothée Chalamet as the lead character Paul Atreides, as well as our first look at the rest of the impressive ensemble cast! That cast includes Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica Atreides, Oscar Isaac as Duke Leto Atreides, Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck, Stellan Skarsgård as Baron Vladimir Harkonnen, Dave Bautista as Glossu 'Beast' Rabban, Zendaya as Chani, David Dastmalchian as Piter De Vries, Stephen McKinley Henderson as Thufir Hawat, Charlotte Rampling as Reverend Mother Gaius Helen Mohiam, Jason Momoa as Duncan Idaho, and Javier Bardem as Stilgar.

The photos come to us courtesy of Vanity Fair, and Villeneuve said about the film:

“I would not agree to make this adaptation of the book with one single movie. The world is too complex. It’s a world that takes its power in details.”

So, he once again confirms that this will be a two-part film, which is great! This story will get the proper big-screen adaptation it deserves. While speaking to what fascinates him about the story, he adds,

“No matter what you believe, Earth is changing, and we will have to adapt. That’s why I think that Dune, this book, was written in the 20th century. It was a distant portrait of the reality of the oil and the capitalism and the exploitation—the overexploitation—of Earth. Today, things are just worse. It’s a coming-of-age story, but also a call for action for the youth.”

The filmmaker went on to explain that this is the most difficult project he’s worked on in his life:

"It’s a book that tackles politics, religion, ecology, spirituality—and with a lot of characters. I think that’s why it’s so difficult. Honestly, it’s by far the most difficult thing I’ve done in my life.” After finishing this first movie, he’ll just have to do it all over again."

Well, I can’t wait to see how it turns out! I trust that he’s going to deliver a film that will blow us away. Here’s the synopsis, followed by the new images.

A mythic and emotionally charged hero’s journey, Dune tells the story of Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence—a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential—only those who can conquer their fear will survive.

Dune is set for release on November 20th, 2020.
