More SUPERGIRL Footage Featured in Latest Promo Spot

Yesterday the first footage for Supergirl debuted in a very lengthy extended trailer that was over 6 minutes long. The series looks a lot more bubbly than I was expecting. It definitely doesn't have the same tone of The Flash, Arrow, or Gotham. The show is obviously being targeted toward a different audience for girls 13 and under, which is fine. I have young daughters of my own who are very excited to watch the show, and I'm glad that they have a series like Supergirl that they can geek out over.

Still, I don't think the show looks very good. It feels like a fake Supergirl romantic comedy that SNL would spoof in one of their digital shorts, like the Black Widow one they did recently that you can watch here. I know this show is all about "girl power," but I think there's a better way of doing it.

There has been talk about Supergirl crossing over with Arrow and The Flash, but I don't think that would be a good idea. This character just does not fit in with that universe.

We have a shorter promo spot for you to watch today that features more footage from the series, along with a behind-the-scenes featurette thanks to Spoiler TV.

Hailing from Warner Bros. TV and Berlanti Productions (who also produce the hit DC Comics series “Arrow” and “The Flash” for The CW), “Supergirl” is an action-adventure drama based on the DC Comics character Kara Zor-El (Benoist), Superman’s (Kal-El) cousin who, after 12 years of keeping her powers a secret on Earth, decides to finally embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be. Twelve-year-old Kara escaped the doomed planet Krypton with her parents’ help at the same time as the infant Kal-El. Protected and raised on Earth by her foster family, the Danvers, Kara grew up in the shadow of her foster sister, Alex (Chyler Leigh), and learned to conceal the phenomenal powers she shares with her famous cousin in order to keep her identity a secret. Years later at 24, Kara lives in National City assisting media mogul and fierce taskmaster Cat Grant (Golden Globe Award winner Calista Flockhart), who just hired the Daily Planet’s former photographer, James Olsen (Brooks), as her new art director. However, Kara’s days of keeping her talents a secret are over when Hank Henshaw (David Harewood), head of a super-secret agency where her sister also works, enlists her to help them protect the citizens of National City from sinister threats. Though Kara will need to find a way to manage her newfound empowerment with her very human relationships, her heart soars as she takes to the skies as Supergirl to fight crime.
