Morgan Creek Planning TV and Film Reboots of YOUNG GUNS, ACE VENTURA, MAJOR LEAGUE & More
Morgan Creek Productions is changing its name almost three decades after its launch. The company will now be known as Morgan Creek Entertainment Group and they are making a big push into television, feature films, and digital entertainment.
Deadline Hollywood reports that the company wants to dust off some of its many popular titles for reuse across multiple platforms including Ace Ventura, Major League, Young Guns, Dead Ringers, Diabolique, Pacific Heights and Clive Barker’s Nightbreed.
Morgan Creek, founded in 1988 has a library consisting of 60-plus feature titles, including 13 movies that debuted at No. 1 at the box office. The company is now pushing forward an effort to remake a lot of the titles, mostly for TV, that are now in various stages of development. For example, a streaming service is in talks about a possible Young Guns movie and TV series.
They also want to relaunch the Ace Ventura franchise, stressing that the idea is not to do a straight remake but a new movie in the spirit of the original. The company would love to have Jim Carrey reprise his signature roles as Ace Ventura. But, the current idea for an Ace Ventura reboot is to pass the torch to someone else, a long-lost son or daughter of Ace possibly showing up at his doorstep and taking over. The idea for Young Guns is similar, the goal is to find another group of up-and-comers.
Those reboots are not all that Morgan Creek will be focusing on. The company is planning for half of its upcoming slate to be original projects.
