Morgan Freeman Goes To Bat For Christian Bale's Batman, Doesn't Think Affleck Will Be Better
With Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice finally arriving in theaters this month three years after Man of Steel, fans are practically rabid with anticipation. But there's one person associated with the Batman franchise that's a little more measured about the whole thing: Morgan Freeman.
The former Lucius Fox recently spoke with ETOnline and expressed his doubt that the movie will be as good as Christopher Nolan's films and that new Batman Ben Affleck will be able to top Christian Bale's interpretation of the character:
"You know, I'm happy for Ben, but I don't know how that's gonna work. Because The Dark Knight was almost 'it.' Pretty much 'it.' Did you see Batman Begins? I don't think you can beat that."
I love that Freeman asks the reporter if she's seen Batman Begins, as if there was a chance that someone working in any aspect of the entertainment industry hasn't seen that movie by now. As for Bale himself, he says he's seen the trailers for Dawn of Justice and is looking forward to the movie — while also giving an appreciative nod to Freeman for backing his version of the World's Greatest Detective:
"Everyone brings their own element to that -- Ben [Affleck] will do that as well. I think the trailers are looking great and I'm looking forward to that. But right on for Morgan for saying no one will ever be that, I very much like him."
Thankfully we don't have much longer until we can start doing updated Bat-comparisons of our own. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice arrives in theaters on March 25.
