MORTAL KOMBAT II Clip Throws Liu Kang and Kung Lao Into a Brutal Tournament Clash

A fresh clip from Mortal Kombat II has dropped just days before the film hits theaters, and it taps straight into the kind of emotional, high-impact fight fans have been waiting for.

The footage puts Liu Kang and Kung Lao on a collision course inside the tournament, turning what used to be a brotherhood into something far more intense.

The preview teases a longer sequence, and in it, Liu Kang is forced to face someone who was once his closest ally. Kung Lao isn’t the same warrior anymore, and that’s where things get interesting.

After being killed before the events of the film, Lao is resurrected by Quan Chi and pulled into fighting for Outworld, flipping the dynamic in a way that raises the stakes instantly.

That emotional conflict fuels the action. The sequel raises the scale across the board, throwing Earthrealm’s champions into a full-on war against Shao Kahn’s forces. And yes, Johnny Cage finally joins the chaos, played by Karl Urban, adding a different kind of energy to the roster.

The cast is packed, with Adeline Rudolph, Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Ludi Lin, Mehcad Brooks, Tati Gabrielle, Lewis Tan, and Damon Herriman all returning or joining the fight.

They’re backed by Chin Han, Tadanobu Asano as Lord Raiden, Joe Taslim as Bi-Han, and Hiroyuki Sanada reprising his role as Hanzo Hasashi and Scorpion.

Director Simon McQuoid is back in the director’s chair, continuing what he started with the 2021 film, this time working from a script by Jeremy Slater. The movie builds on the world created by Ed Boon and John Tobias, leaning further into the tournament structure and the brutal tone fans expect.

The new clip shows that the film will be pushing characters into situations that hurt, forcing them to clash in ways that actually mean something.

Mortal Kombat II arrives later this week, and if this Liu Kang versus Kung Lao showdown is any indication, the tournament is going to deliver some savage fights.
