Movie Theaters Ordered To Shut Down in Los Angeles and New York City

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio have ordered movie theaters in their respective cities to close down in an effort to keep the virus from spreading. This is the first time in history that movie theaters have had to be closed down en masse not due to weather concerns.

On top of this, bars, nightclubs, gyms, other entertainment venues, restaurants, nightclubs, small theater houses and concert venues will be closed down. Restaurants are limited to only take-out and delivery orders.

I think a lot of us saw this coming with the way things have been escalating. I just never thought I would ever see something like this happen in my lifetime. It’s strange, surreal, and scary. But, all we can do is deal with it the best way we can.

Mayor Eric Garcetti shared the following:

Garcetti also said:

“What we do in the next couple of weeks — of listening to that social distancing, of saying no to that trip, of that gathering, of just putting things off — means the difference between whether this is weeks or months.

“It’s not just about you. It’s about your loved one. It’s about your parents and your grandparents. It’s about senior neighbors that you have. It’s about those we know who are being treated for cancer, or underlying conditions. You will save their lives by what you do right now.”

Mayor Bill de Blasio took to Twitter to share the following:

It’s still too early to tell how long this is going to last, but I really hope that all these steps being taken to contain the spread of the virus works and that things in the world start getting back to normal sooner rather than later.

I hope you’re all doing ok under the circumstances and staying safe.
