MR. T Tells His Incredible Story in Trailer for Netflix’s UNTOLD MR. T: I PITY THE FOOL Documentary
“This guy is a real life superhero.”
Netflix is putting the spotlight on one of the most badass pop culture icons of the ’80s with Untold Mr. T: I Pity The Fool, a new documentary exploring the wild life and career of Mr. T, from his childhood in Chicago to becoming one of the most recognizable stars on the planet.
Before the mohawk, mountains of gold chains, The A-Team, and Rocky III, he was Laurence Tureaud, the youngest son in a family of 12 children. His path to Hollywood was anything but conventional, and the trailer makes it clear that the man himself has plenty of stories to tell.
I was a huge Mr. T fan when I was a kid. I watched The A-Team religiously, and B.A. Baracus was easily my favorite character. I thought Mr. T was the coolest guy alive. So yeah, a documentary that lets him look back on his life and explain how all of this craziness happened totally has my attention.
Mr. T’s story started long before he became a television superstar. Born Laurence Tureaud in Chicago, he eventually served in the U.S. Army before working as a bouncer and later becoming a bodyguard for celebrities.
His physical presence also led him into tough-man competitions, where he won two consecutive contests during the late 1970s. Those experiences helped put him on the path toward Hollywood, eventually leading to the role that turned him into a star.
Mr. T played the ferocious Clubber Lang opposite Sylvester Stallone in Rocky III, giving the franchise one of its most memorable opponents. From there, his popularity exploded when he took on the role of B.A. Baracus in The A-Team. He later stepped into professional wrestling as well, becoming part of the WWF scene during the 1980s.
The official description for the documentary reads: “A retrospective feature documentary about Laurence Tureaud... better known as Mr. T. Before the gold chains, mohawk, and Hollywood fame of The A-Team and Rocky III, there was Laurence Tureaud. This is the extraordinary origin story behind one of the most unlikely and beloved icons in entertainment — Mr. T.”
The big appeal here is getting to hear Mr. T tell his own story. His larger-than-life personality made him a childhood hero to an entire generation, but there’s a fascinating journey underneath the famous image that people associate with him.
Untold Mr. T: I Pity The Fool is directed by documentary filmmaker Scott Weintrob, whose previous credits include Top Gear, Fastest Car, Home, Built to Fail, Paradox Effect, and the short Lewis x Ferris.
The Mr. T documentary was produced by Studio Large Eyes, Pantheon Media Group, and WWE Films as part of Netflix’s Untold documentary series.
For anyone who grew up watching Mr. T smash bad guys, this looks like a fun opportunity to finally hear the story of Laurence Tureaud and how he created an entertainment persona that became an ’80s phenomenon.
I’m definitely checking this one out. Untold Mr. T: I Pity The Fool premieres globally on Netflix on September 8th, 2026.
