MS. MARVEL Directors Hope To See Kamala Khan Evolve in The MCU The Same Way Spider-Man Has

I’ve been excited about watching the upcoming Marvel series Ms. Marvel as I actually enjoyed her story arc in the comics. I’m hoping that this series captures the spirit of that. I’ve liked the footage I’ve seen in the trailers and it looks like this will actually be a charming show and it also looks like Iman Vellani does a wonderful job playing Kamala Khan in the series.

This series is going to serve as an origin story for the character and from there she is set to appear in the Captain Marvel sequel The Marvels. I imagine that won’t be the last that we see of her either. The directors of the Disney + series, Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, would love to see Kamala have a long life in the MCU and grow in the same way that Tom Halland’s Spider-Man has grown over the past several years.

In an interview with Total Film, Fallah says: "It’s just the beginning. There’s a lot more you can do." El Arbi added: "In the same way you see Tom Holland as Peter Parker evolve... that’s the bar, basically. For us, personally, it’s a masterpiece of a movie, Spider-Man: No Way Home. The bar is now so high. It just inspires us and also the other people involved in Ms. Marvel, to be like, ‘What can we do to try to reach that goal one day?’"

Vellani is also excited to see what the future holds for her character, and shares: "[Kamala]’s a fan [of the Avengers], just like us, and that’s why we root for her when she meets Avengers in the comics. That’s why we root for her when she gets her powers. Everyone can definitely see themselves in her. You don’t have to be Brown or Muslim or Pakistani. It’s about this Avengers-loving, fanfic-writing nerd who just happens to be a Pakistani-American Muslim girl. But she’s awesome, and ultimately you just watch her grow and become this badass superhero." Below, see an exclusive image of the new Disney Plus series.”

That’s exactly why I like this character so much and why I’m happy to see that she is coming to the MCU. It’s going to be a lot of fun to watch her evolve in this world.

Kamala Khan is a Muslim American teenager growing up in Jersey City. “An avid gamer and a voracious fan-fiction scribe, Kamala is a Super Hero mega fan with an oversized imagination—particularly when it comes to Captain Marvel. Yet Kamala feels like she doesn’t fit in at school and sometimes even at home—that is, until she gets super powers like the heroes she’s always looked up to. Life gets better with super powers, right?”

The rest of the cast includes Aramis Knight, Saagar Shaikh, Rish Shah, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Matt Lintz, Yasmeen Fletcher, Laith Nakli, Azhar Usman, Travina Springer, and Nimra Bucha.

Ms. Marvel is set to premiere exclusively on Disney+ on June 8, 2022!
