MS. MARVEL Star Iman Vellani Offers a Delightful Joy-Fueled Review of Marvel's WONDER MAN
Iman Vellani continues to be the MCU’s most relatable superfan, and this time she’s turned that enthusiasm toward Wonder Man, delivering a glowing, joyful review that feels like it came straight from the heart instead of a studio email chain.
The Ms. Marvel star took to Letterboxd to sing the praises of Marvel’s latest Disney+ series. Vellani rated Wonder Man a strong 4.5 stars and made it very clear this wasn’t some corporate talking point. This was pure fandom energy.
Wonder Man centers on Simon Williams, an aspiring actor trying to land a role in a reboot of a classic superhero movie. The twist is that superpowered performers are banned in Hollywood, and Simon happens to have powers of his own.
That story gives the show room to explore fame, identity, and creativity without drowning the audience in continuity homework.
Vellani kicked off her recommendation with infectious enthusiasm, writing on Letterboxd:
"Watch Wonder Man," Vellani wrote, complete with clapping emojis between each word. "And if that was not convincing enough, allow me to briefly tickle ur inner skeptic with a list!"
What followed was a full-on love letter to the series, touching on everything from its tone to its influences and why it works whether you’re deep into Marvel or totally new to it:
- If you like movies, watch Wonder Man.
- If you like movies about movies, watch Wonder Man.
- If you’re a Midnight Cowboy fan, watch Wonder Man.
- If you've seen every Marvel ever – or no Marvels at all – watch Wonder Man.
- If you prefer your superheroes human first and super second, watch Wonder Man.
- If you're a lil sucker for a mentorship buddy-comedy, watch Wonder Man.
- If you forgot what sincerity looks like, watch Wonder Man.
- If you miss Ben Kingsley's "Uh-merica" delivery, watch Wonder Man.
- If you're craving something breathable and refreshingly uninterested in assaulting you with lore, watch Wonder Man.
- If you appreciate some baller needle drops, watch Wonder Man.
- If you miss when the MCU was grounded and kinda weird and small and a little sad, or perhaps you've felt like something's been missing lately and you can't quiteee put your finger on what – congrats. You've found it. Watch Wonder Man.
- If you like when people who CLEARLY care make projects for people who REALLY care – watch Wonder Man.
“Okay, that's all I’ve got. To summarize…WWM!"
That list pretty much nails why Wonder Man has been landing so well with fans who’ve been craving character-first Marvel stories. It’s smaller, more personal, and way more interested in people than spectacle.
Vellani also made sure to clear the air before anyone could accuse her of hyping the show just because she’s part of the MCU machine. She closed out her review with a perfectly on-brand disclaimer:
"(Note: This message was written under the pure influence of joy. No Kevins and/or Feiges are currently present.)"
The last time we saw Vellani on screen was in The Marvels, and while she’s noticeably absent from the massive cast list for Avengers: Doomsday, her voice as a fan is still loud and clear.
She’s watching the same shows we are, reacting in real time, and celebrating when Marvel leans into thoughtful, character-driven storytelling.
I’m right there with her. I loved Wonder Man. I loved seeing Marvel slow things down and let the characters breathe. They nailed this one, and if this is the direction more projects head in, I’m all in.
