Murder, Mystery, Sci-Fi, and Fantasy Get Mixed Together for Upcoming Series BLACK CLOAK at Image Comics
Image Comics recently announced that the new ongoing series Black Cloak will be launching in January 2023. This new series looks to blend together mystery, fantasy, sci-fi and more with a story from Kelly Thompson (Black Widow) and art by Meredith McClaren (Jem & the Holograms).
Blade Runner style mixes with Saga-esque drama in a delectable fantasy/sci-fi blend as two Black Cloaks try to solve the murder of a beloved prince in Kiros—the last city in the known world—before his murder tips the city into war. The mystery begins in a spectacular triple-length first issue hitting shelves in the New Year.
Talking about bringing Black Cloak to life, Thompson told Popverse:
Black Cloak is essentially all of my favorite things—detective stories, fantasy creatures and magic, neo-noir sci-fi—thrown into a blender and made into something thrillingly new...or if not new, then at least new-ISH. And I'm so excited to be teaming up with Meredith again on a project where we can really cut loose with world-building and design. I can never get enough of how Meredith's brain works and she has breathed incredible super cool life into Black Cloak.
This sounds like it could be an incredible story. Black Cloak #1 is set to release on January 11 and features a main cover by McClaren and variants from Jeff Dekal, Christian Ward, Peach Momoko, and Tula Lotay. If you like digital comics, you’ll also find it available through Thompson’s 1979 Semi-Finalist Substack newsletter.
