MURDERBOT Season 2 Adds Steve Buscemi, Wanda Sykes, Patton Oswalt and More
Apple TV’s Murderbot is loading up on some serious talent for Season 2, with Steve Buscemi, Wanda Sykes, Patton Oswalt, Martha Plimpton, Bridget Everett, Michael Sheen, Tramell Tillman, Blair Underwood, and Brendan Hunt among the new additions joining the Emmy-nominated sci-fi comedy.
More than a year after Apple TV renewed the series, the second season is moving forward with a sizable group of newcomers who should make Murderbot’s already complicated relationship with humanity even more interesting.
The new cast will join returning star and executive producer Alexander Skarsgård, who plays the titular security construct. Also returning are Noma Dumezweni, David Dastmalchian, Sabrina Wu, Akshay Khanna, Tattiawna Jones, and Tamara Podemski.
The series will also bring back recurring guest stars Clark Gregg, John Cho, DeWanda Wise, and Jack McBrayer.
Season 2 has plenty of great personalities to play with. Unfortunately, Apple TV hasn't revealed who any of these actors are playing yet, so we'll have to wait to find out how they fit into Murderbot's increasingly weird existence.
Based on the first novella in Martha Wells’ book series, Murderbot follows a self-hacking security construct that has secretly gained free will. There's just one problem with that freedom: dealing with humans.
Murderbot is uncomfortable with human emotions and would much rather spend its time watching futuristic soap operas than forming meaningful connections. Despite that, it keeps finding itself drawn to the vulnerable humans it's supposed to protect.
Created by Chris Weitz and Paul Weitz, the first season followed Murderbot as it attempted to conceal its independence while completing a dangerous assignment. All it really wanted was some alone time, plenty of television, and a chance to figure out what the hell it wanted from its newfound freedom.
That's part of what makes the character so much fun. Skarsgård gets to play a powerful artificial being capable of handling dangerous situations while internally reacting to basic human interaction like it's the most unbearable assignment imaginable.
Apple TV hasn't shared any story details for Murderbot Season 2 yet. With this many recognizable actors coming aboard, though, there are going to be plenty of new characters for Murderbot to tolerate, avoid, protect, or possibly binge terrible futuristic television with.
David S. Goyer executive produces alongside Keith Levine for Phantom Four. There’s currently no premiere date announced for Murderbot Season 2, but the expanding cast gives fans another good reason to keep an eye on it.
