My Favorite Thing From Comic-Con Was Marvel's GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 Trailer, and Here's Why it's Not Online

The best thing that I saw at Comic-Con this past weekend was the trailer that director James Gunn shared for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. That footage was absolutely incredible and super emotional. As I’m watching it, I’m thinking that I’m not ready for what is to come because it’s going to be an emotional rollercoaster and I have no doubt that some of these Guardians characters aren’t coming out of it alive. By the end of the trailer, almost everyone in Hall H had tears streaming down their faces. When you eventually see the trailer, you’ll know why.

This was one trailer that was not released for the rest of the world to see online. Marvel and Gunn decided to hold back on that for the time being because there are unfinished effects shots that they want to be completed before they do. Gunn actually took to Twitter to explain when a fan asked about it:

“I wish you could have [seen it] too. But it’s not just Marvel, it’s also me. Although I love the teaser, some VFX aren’t where I’d want them to be for repeated views and close inspection — remember we didn’t wrap long ago — so you’ll have to wait just a beat! Sorry!”

That totally understandable. One day you will get to see it! Some of the key moments of the trailer included Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) reuniting with Gamora (Zoe Saldana). He’s trying so hard to get back the relationship that he lost, but she’s not having it. There are some great moments between these characters that are both heartfelt and funny.

One of the biggest aspects of the trailer focused on Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper) and his tragic past. We get to see a couple of young versions of Rocket that will just melt your heart. It’s been said that this movie will put a focus on Rocket’s history, and this trailer certainly confirmed that and his relationship with the film’s villain, the High Evolutionary, who is played by Peacemaker star Chukwudi Iwuji.

Iwuji actually showed up to Hall H at Comic-Con all decked out in his costume and in character, which was super impressive! He’s gonna be great!

The trailer also includes a first look at Will Poulter as Adam Warlock, and Maria Bakalova as Cosmo the Space Dog. I imagine these two characters are also connected to the High Evolutionary. We also got to see Groot in his prime and he’s looking like a badass!

There’s one moment in the trailer that shows Star-Lord crying and screaming in deep despair. I don’t know what’s going on there, but it’s definitely not good.

I can’t wait for all of you to get to watch this trailer and see what Gunn has in store for this movie! The movie also stars Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Vin Diesel as Groot, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Pom Klementieff as Mantis, Sean Gunn as Kraglin, and Elizabeth Debicki as Ayesha.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 hits theaters on May 5, 2023.
