Q&A with Curt Pires About Comics and OLYMPIA

I had the opportunity to have a question and answer with Curt Pires, one of the creators of Olympia. The story was created by Pires along with his late father Tony and it’s a rather interesting read so far. What’s your favorite part of the series so far?

T: I understand that you co-wrote Olympia with your father Tony, whose idea was it to work together on this comic together? Who came up with the idea of Olympia?

C: My dad came up with the idea. We both sort of mutually agreed to work on it when he was in the hospital because it was something to help us get through dark times.

T: What has been your favorite part of the story in Olympia?

C: When my Dad read the PDF of the first issue and had this huge smile on his face and was telling me how much he loved it. One of the best moments of my life.

T: What was your inspiration for going into comics? When did it click that that's what you wanted to do?

C: My dad and my uncle took me to my favorite comic shop--Another Dimension comics--for the first time when I was twelve. My cousin Sean was with me. It was the old location, they had a Spiderman on the roof--life sized and it was the coolest thing I’ve seen. In middle school I feel off comics, but in highschool--my buddy James Patmore gave me copies of Preacher, Walking Dead, and all this incredible shit. He got me back into comics and I knew I wanted to write them. It was mindblowing. So I owe it all to him. Thanks buddy.

T: What are your top 3 comics right now?

C: These Savage Shores--one of the only comics that’s so brilliant in both concept and execution. Can’t remember the last time I was more impressed with a comic.

The Plot - Friends with pretty much on this book, but it’s incredible work. Seriously evocative horror with a strong emotional core.

Shoplifters Will Be Liquidated - Really impressive first issue. Beautiful art and colors. And not afraid to take things in interesting uncomfortable directions.

T: If someone came up to you and said that your next job could be to create a new storyline for any existing comic, what would you want that comic to be? What character do you want to play with?

C: I have a Punisher idea that is a license to print money. I might just retool it into something creator owned that I can make.

T: If Olympia got adapted into a film or television series, who would you cast as Olympian?

C: Dave Bautista.
