Review: THE POSTCARD KILLINGS Starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan
I was given the opportunity to see the film The Postcard Killings, based on the novel by James Patterson and Liza Marklund. The film was directed by Danis Tanovic and adapted by Marklund and Andrew Stern. In the film, Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Watchmen, Supernatural, The Walking Dead) stars as New York police detective Jacob Kanon, who is devastated when he learns that his daughter and son-in-law have been brutally murdered by a serial killer on their honeymoon in London. He goes on to work the case, against the advice of the European agencies that are heading the investigation.
Morgan is joined in the cast by Famke Janssen (X-Men, Hemlock Grove), Cush Jumbo (The Good Wife, The Good Fight), Naomi Battrick (Crossing Lines, Jamestown), and Ruairi O’Connor (Teen Spirit, The Spanish Princess).
The trailer for the film made me uneasy, as the brutal murders left the victims graphically posed, reminding me of the film Se7en. While this film kept me guessing and told an interesting story, it didn’t play as intensely as the thriller Se7en. I wasn’t scared or hiding my eyes in any part of the film, but I was surprised by the outcome. I thought the story was solid, and the acting was good. I also like a movie that gives a little twist at the end, letting fans wonder what could have come next for the characters.
If you want a good popcorn thriller, this is a fun one. Check out the trailer below, and see The Postcard Killings in theaters tomorrow!
