Naomie Harris Is in Talks to Play the Villain Shriek in VENOM 2

Earlier this week we learned that the Marvel villain Shriek would be making her big screen debut in director Andy Serkis’s Venom 2. Well, it looks like Sony Pictures has found the actress they want to play the character, and that actress is Naomie Harris (Rampage, Skyfall, No Time To Die).

Harris is currently in talks to join Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams, and Woody Harrelson, who will all be reprising their roles. Shriek is the romantic interest of serial killer Cletus Kasaday, a.k.a. Carnage, and she’s “bound to team with Harrelson in this movie to face off against Hardy’s Venom.”

Harris is a talented actress, and if cast, I’m sure that she’ll be great in the role. Shriek’s inclusion in the story is sure to make things interesting.

Frances Barrison, a.k.a. Shriek, was first introduced in 1993’s Spider-Man Unlimited No. 1 and is part of the “Maximum Carnage” saga. She was a drug dealer/rock groupie whose mutant abilities were activated after going through some severe trauma that pushed her over the edge into insanity. As for what her powers entail:

Shriek can manipulate sound in different ways. She has the hyper sonically tap into people's minds and bring out their inner darkness (generating fear, anger, hate), making them act in violent manners. She can harness it and shoot destructive sonic energy blasts from her hands or disorientate. She can also shield herself with a sonic field and fly. With her sonic powers she is also capable of generating a sonic scream with can deafen or disorientate.

What do you think about Naomie Harris taking on the role of the villain Shriek? It’ll be interesting to see how the character ends up being brought to life for the film.
