Naomie Harris Pitched a James Bond Spinoff Moneypenny Solo Film That Was Rejected By the Producers
Naomie Harris, who played Eve Moneypenny in the last two James Bond films, has been an enhanced version of the character that has been fun to watch. Some fans have even talked about Harris becoming the new Bond, and while those are only rumors, Harris was recently asked about her future in the franchise while promoting her film, Black and Blue. While talking to ComingSoon (via /film) she said:
“Actually, Barry Jenkins, the director of Moonlight, he always said that he wanted to do a Moneypenny spin-off, so maybe…” she teased, adding that Jenkins and longtime franchise producer Barbara Broccoli “had a little discussion, but nothing’s happened so far, but you never know.”
Then while appearing on Good Morning America she went into a little more detail about that meeting and how she pitched the idea to Broccoli and that it was shot down:
“He’s wanted to do a badass, kick-ass action thing with Moneypenny, which I’m all for. I got together with our producer, Barbara Broccoli, and was like ‘Let’s make this happen.’ But she wasn’t so down for it. But maybe, one day, who knows. The conversation has started at least, and we’re continuing it here.”
It’s too bad that the idea was shut down so quickly. But maybe down the line, someone else will see the value in it. I think it could be cool to have a Moneypenny film. What do you think about the idea?
