NASA Shares the First Ever Image of a Black Hole

For all of you astronomy geeks out there, NASA has revealed the very first photo ever taken of a Black Hole, and it’s awesome! Yeah, it my not look very impressive, but the fact that NASA was able to capture this image is incredible! I’m in awe of it.

Need a refresher on what a Black Hole is? It's a place where a large amount of mass has been squeezed into a tiny space. The gravity is so strong that not even light can escape from it. That, my friends, is power. For more information on Black Holes, click here.

The image you see above shows the black hole which was located at the center of the galaxy M87, a massive galaxy in the Virgo galaxy cluster which is 55 million light-years away. Its mass is 6.5 billion times that of the Sun.

NASA explains that a global network of telescopes has been working to capture the first ever image of a black hole. The image was taken by the Event Horizon Telescope.

NASA offers a detailed breakdown of how they managed to capture this image here.
