Natalie Holt to Score OBI-WAN KENOBI, Becoming First Woman Composer in STAR WARS History

New information has been released regarding the music for the Obi-Wan Kenobi series that is headed to Disney+ next month.

It was already reported that the main theme for the series is being created and composed by John Williams, who wrote the music for the Star Wars films, as well as so many other famous musical scores like Jaws, Superman, Indiana Jones, E.T., Home Alone, Hook, Jurassic Park, Schindler’s List, Harry Potter, and countless others. This seems like a no-brainer, but it’s kind of momentous, as Obi-Wan Kenobi will be Williams’ first Star Wars television project.

And speaking of momentous, the Obi-Wan Kenobi series also welcomes Natalie Holt, the first woman composer to work on a live-action Star Wars Project. She will be composing the score for the rest of the series. Holt has worked on several prolific projects in the past, including the Disney+ Marvel series, Loki, as well as the upcoming DC movie, Batgirl.

Holt said that Williams’ past work on Star Wars will “serve as tentpoles for her own and she will be bringing a “new and fresh” interpretation of Star Wars music to the series. She explained, “It’s been glorious, working with my hero. and also bringing my own voice to the show.”

Holt also shared that Williams’ theme for the series is “reflective” and “just entirely appropriate” for the series. She added, “It distills what the show is about in just the perfect way that John Williams can. It’s wistful, but there’s an element of hope to it. It’s doing something new and I think people are going to be really blown away by it.”

It will be fun to hear what the score for Obi-Wan Kenobi ends up sounding like. We can all check it out when the series begins on May 27th on Disney+.
