Natalie Portman and Chris Hemsworth Tease THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER's Flashback Breakup Sequences

We are getting so close to the premiere of Taika Waititi’s follow up Thor movie, Thor: Love and Thunder, and while we have gotten a trailer and some looks at the movie, the synopsis has remained largely under wraps. It’s actually pretty exciting that while we know the film will feature the return of Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), and its villain is Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), we don’t know much about the twists and turns the story will take.

Now, we have a fun look into one aspect of the story via an interview with stars Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman, who play Thor and Jane, who previously dated.

In the Spring 2022 issue of Disney’s D23 Magazine (via The Direct), Portman and Hemsworth revealed that the upcoming MCU epic will feature flashback sequences of Thor and Jane's breakup.

Hemsworth explained:

"There actually wasn't a whole lot of evidence to definitively say, 'This is how they broke up. This is what happened.' It was left open for interpretation, which was great because it allowed us to go on this fun journey; 'What did their relationship look like when they were together? What did it look like when they were breaking up? Why did they break up?' It's some of the funniest stuff in the film."

Portman added:

"It was really fun to get to imagine the parts of their relationship we hadn't seen...and the hard parts of a scientist dating an otherworldly Super Hero."

She went on to talk about what it was like coming back to the Thor franchise, and working with director Taika Waititi:

"Taika brings such a sense of fun, mischief, and spontaneity to the set. It was a really joyful environment and we embraced the silly."

Portman also talked about how nice it was to reunite with actress Tessa Thompson, who is returning to play Valkyrie:

"We worked together on Annihilation and also quite closely with [the #MeToo Hollywood activist group] Time's Up, and I am always blown away by her brilliance, talent, and generosity. I truly love her and I was very lucky to have a friend to play with on and off set."

I can’t wait! The best part about Waititi’s take on Thor is the humor he brings to the story, and I look forward to seeing how this story unfolds. Thor: Love and Thunder hits theatres on July 8th!
