Natasha Lyonne Names the Film and TV Roles She Missed Out on Including SABRINA THE TEENAGE WITCH and BLOSSOM
Natasha Lyonne has hit her stride in recent years, landing great roles in solid series like Orange is the New Black and her recently released series Poker Face. But she has been around for a while now, getting her start on Pee Wee’s Playhouse in 1986, as well as comedies like Slums of Beverly Hills, American Pie, the cult classic But I’m a Cheerleader, the American Pie and Scary Movie sequels, and literally over 100 more films and series, but the actress has had her fair share of roles that didn’t work out.
During a recent appearance on the Bravo after show Watch What Happens Live, host Andy Cohen asked Lyonne if there were any roles she’d auditioned for over the years that she really thought she’d had in the bag. She revealed that she was in the running to get the role of Sabrina on the ABC comedy Sabrina the Teenage Witch, she auditioned for both parts of Blossom and Six on the NBC series Blossom, and as a young girl, she tried out for the lead role in John Hughes’ Curly Sue.
While I can’t imagine Lyonne in the role of Sabrina, which was made iconic by Melissa Joan Hart, I could totally see her as the fast-talking best friend of Blossom, Six. I think she would have brought a fun edge to the part. And she certainly has the hair for Curly Sue, but I wonder if she is or was a singer.
No matter what, Lyonne has a career to be proud of now, and I think every actor has a list of maybes and almosts.
