NBC Cancels DC's POWERLESS and I'm Really Bummed Out About It
I don't know about you, but I've been enjoying the hell out of DC's Powerless. It's one of my favorite shows to watch right now. Unfortunately, it looks like NBC has cancelled the show. Not only that, but they aren't even going to be showing the final three episodes of the season! What the hell!?
Apparently, not everyone feels the same way that I do about the show. Ratings are low and there's apparently a lot of drama behind-the-scenes. THR says:
The Vanessa Hudgens comedy underwent a significant retooling before it premiered. Series creator Ben Queen exited the series ahead of its launch, with Patrick Schumacker and Justin Halpern tapped as the new showrunners. While Powerless remained a workplace comedy set in the superhero universe, everything else about the series changed, including its portrayal of familiar heroes from the DC Comics universe.
I don't really care what changed because I enjoyed what the show was delivering and the comedy always made me laugh. Shumacker addressed the future of the series on Twitter, saying:
"#Powerless will not air this week or next. This, I know for sure. I can guess some other things but they're not good. Thanks for watching."
What a shame. The NBC series Superstore will fill its Thursday night time slot at 8:30pm. That series was already renewed, which is strange because it's not as good at Powerless. I hate when good shows get prematurely canceled!
I hope that somewhere down the line we get to see the final three episodes. I'm just bummed out that the show has met its demise.
