NBC is Redeveloping a NANCY DREW Series
You remember those classic Nancy Drew mystery novels? Well, after CBS passed on a Nancy Drew series last year, NBC is picking it up and redeveloping it with the same creative team that consists of Tony Phelan and Joan Rater (Grey's Anatomy). However, the series will move forward with a different cast. When the project was set up at CBS, Person of Interest actress Sarah Shahi was cast in the role of Nancy.
Thanks to THR, we have a brief plot synopsis for the NBC series:
"When the author of the most famous female teen detective series is thrust into a real-life murder mystery, who does she turn to for help? Her two best friends from childhood, who were the inspiration for all those books, and the women who have a real ax to grind about the way their supposed best friend chose to portray them all those years ago."
There are a ton of fun stories that can be used from the Nancy Drew novels series for inspiration and I believe that there's potential for a solid series here. If they can make it as good as Veronica Mars, that would encouraging.
Nancy Drew first appeared in the books that were published in the 1930s. They were created by Edward Stratemeyer, but the book have been ghostwritten by several different authors over the years and published under the pseudonym, Carolyn Keene. There were a few films made in the 30s, a TV series produced by ABC back in the 1970s, and Emma Roberts played the character in a movie in 2007.
Nancy Drew was a big inspiration for girls and women and she is considered a feminist icon. What do you hope to see from NBC's Nancy Drew series?
