NBC's CONSTANTINE Could Include Swamp Thing, Zatanna, and More!
We've got a few bits of Constantine news to share with you today. We've got a new TV spot called "Trust" for you to watch, and a first look at Angélica Celaya's character Zed. But one of the most interesting reports that have surfaced is that the series could eventually bring in some fan favorite occult characters. Some of those characters would include Swamp Thing and Zatanna!
Producer David S. Goyer recently sat down for an interview with Screen Rant, and when asked if it would be possible to bring some of these other characters into the series, he said,
"Yeah. I think you’ll see some of those…If the show takes off…even within the first 12 episodes we’ve introduced two or three characters from the broader DC universe that are not just exclusively from Hellblazer. Corrigan has been mentioned, but there’s a couple of other characters we haven’t talked about that will show up as well. If the show takes off and we get our back nine and come back a second season, we sort of have access to that whole corner of the occult universe. So, hopefully we’ll be introducing those characters as is appropriate."
Goyer went on to reveal that Swamp Thing's name has been "thrown around," saying,
"It’s not something I think we’d attempt in the first season. We need to make sure that we can pull off the special makeup effects. We don’t want to do a cheesy version of Swamp Thing. It’s a lot easier to do Dr. Occult or Zatanna or Jim Corrigan than it is to do Swamp Thing. So we’ll see."
I assume that means we will see Dr. Occult, Zatanna, and Jim Corrigan appear sometime in the first season. There's definitely a lot of great characters to pull from the world of the Hellblazer universe, and it's exciting to hear that the series is open to bringing in several of them.
Guillermo del Toro has been developing a Justice League Dark movie for a while, but it doesn't look like it's going to happen anytime soon. Especially after it wasn't mentioned yesterday when Warner Bros. revealed their comic book movie line-up.
Below you will find the TV spot for Constantine and the photos of Zed. Executive Producer Daniel Cerone describes the character of Zed as "someone who can go toe-to-toe with John, and that's ultimately something we felt like we needed, we wanted a more dynamic relationship, as opposed to someone who is a teacher/mentor and a student. It just didn't feel as fertile and rich of an area as just a strong a man and a strong woman who are both very different."
The series is set to premiere on October 24th.
