Neal Scanlan Talks About Making Creatures for STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI

One of the things that make the Star Wars movies amazing is the vast array of creatures. These creatures have been brought to life since Star Wars: The Force Awakens by Neal Scanlan who has also worked on Babe, Gulliver’s Travels, and Jurassic Park: Fallen Kingdom. Den of Geek recently sat down with Scanlan to talk about bringing these creatures to life and what it’s like to work on these massive projects. When asked about the ratio between practical and digital effects for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Scanlan explains:

It’s tough to say because digital plays enormous role in the movie across the board. It’s outstanding, if you really think about it, how many backgrounds and how many enhancements and things. But if you look at the creatures, I would say you’re ending up pretty well with I would say is an average of 50/50 mix.

Scanlan continues to explain that it varies from creature to creature with some being 95% digital and others being 75% practical.
