Ben Cooper, Inc. was founded in 1937, and they also produced costumes based on popular characters from film, television, and comics. Located in Brooklyn, New York, the company established itself early on by securing licenses for characters from hot properties.

In the post-war era and throughout the mid-to-late 20th century, Ben Cooper became a household name, especially after obtaining licenses for super-popular franchises like Star Wars, Spider-Man, and Superman. Their affordable costumes, often made from thin, brightly colored fabric and paired with plastic masks, became emblematic of Halloween for generations of kids.

However, by the late 1980s and early 1990s, increased competition and shifts in consumer preferences led to the company's decline. Despite its eventual bankruptcy in 1992, the Ben Cooper brand remains an iconic piece of nostalgia for many who grew up during its heyday.
