I would have really loved to see the Alien 5 film that director Neill Blomkamp was working on. He was making the sequel to Aliens that the fans wanted to see! Unfortunately, his project got canceled, and it’s never gonna happen.

During a recent interview with The Guardian, the filmmaker talked a little bit about Alien 5 and said he believes that his 2015 sci-fi robot film Chappie may be the reason that he didn’t get to make the movie. He said:

"It’s possible that Ridley [Scott, director of Alien] watched Chappie and he was like, this guy can’t do Alien so let’s just go ahead and move on.”

Chappie follows an AI law enforcement robot, voiced by District 9 star Sharlto Copley, who's captured by gangsters. The movie didn’t really work. When asked about the future potential of working with Ridley Scott, Blomkamp said:

"There’s no coming back from that. I’m not gonna work on a film for two years and have the rug pulled out from underneath me and then go hang out and have beers. It’s exactly why I don’t want to do IP based on other people’s stuff ever again."

The unproduced movie that would have seen the return of Sigourney Weaver and Michael Biehn. The events of the film would have picked up after the events of James Cameron’s Aliens and ignored the events of Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection.

All of the original talent, including James Cameron, Weaver, and Biehn, loved the direction that Blomkamp was taking the story! They all love Blomkamp’s vision for the next chapter of the franchise. Unfortunately, Scott himself said that Blomkamp's movie would "never see the light."
