Neil Gaiman Explains Why Netflix Hasn't Renewed THE SANDMAN For Season 2 Yet
Netflix still has yet to renew Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman series for a second season. The first season was fantastic and I hope that the story continues with Season 2, but we’ll just have to wait and see. Apparently, the show wasn’t a runaway hit and Netflix is still gathering data before they make a decision.
Gaiman recently offered an explanation of why The Sandman hasn’t been renewed yet, saying: “Sandman Season 1 dropped Aug 5th. The data harvesting has only just finished - and is complicated by a lot of people not binge-watching it, but spreading it out, letting episodes sink in before watching the next. Telling @netflix to hurry up won't make decisions s happen faster.”
For me, I watched about three episodes a day before I finished watching. But I guess some people are taking a bit more time, which is understandable. I guess when people don’t binge-watch shows and watch them at a slower pace, creative teams are put in a position where they have to sweat it and wonder if they’ll get picked up for a new season a bit longer.
Here’s Gaiman’s Tweet:
In the series: “There is another world that waits for all of us when we close our eyes and sleep — a place called the Dreaming, where The Sandman, Master of Dreams (Tom Sturridge), gives shape to all of our deepest fears and fantasies. But when Dream is unexpectedly captured and held prisoner for a century, his absence sets off a series of events that will change both the dreaming and waking worlds forever. To restore order, Dream must journey across different worlds and timelines to mend the mistakes he’s made during his vast existence, revisiting old friends and foes, and meeting new entities — both cosmic and human — along the way.”
The cast includes Tom Sturridge as Dream, Charles Dance (Game of Thrones) as Roderick Burgess, Boyd Holbrook (Narcos) as The Corinthian, Patton Oswalt (A.P. Bio) as the voice of Matthew the Raven, Kirby Howell-Baptiste (The Good Place) as Death, Jenna Coleman (Doctor Who) as Johanna Constantine, Joely Richardson (Nip/Tuck) as Ethel Cripps, Vivienne Acheampong as Lucienne, and David Thewlis (the Harry Potter films) as John Dee.
